But while they were initially only supposed to help the new players from the sidelines, the coaches ended up being able to compete as well. It was an "old guard versus new guard" season that saw Ian Terry beat out one of the best to ever play the game for the win. Nonetheless, Dan Gheesling, who still made runner up, entertained with his usual scheming, including that the way he betrayed and blindsided Danielle.
In the end, though, Ian's passion for the game and rise from underdog to winner made for an exciting watch. The most exciting thing about this season was how, after an entire summer of scheming, manipulating, and running the house, Paul Abrahamian — one of the best players to have never won the game — still lost out to Nicole Franzel.
It was a historic win as well, making her the first female to ever win the game against a male houseguest in the final two. This season saw both new and returning players, including fan-favorites Da'Vonne Rogers and James Huling as well as Franzel , who originally played in season 16, and Frank Eudy from Big Brother Steve Nolan became yet another underdog to win the game this season, which featured fan-favorites Da'Vonne, Vanessa, and James and brought back the twin twist with Liz and Julia, who both ended up getting the chance to play in the house together since no one publicly figured out they were two different people switching back and forth.

His name was never mentioned to go on the block, and his strong friendship with Cody helped get him the win.
It's a masterclass season for fans who love the strategy part of the game. But it was also thoroughly entertaining thanks to other houseguests like Frankie Grande, who didn't tell others he was the half-brother of pop superstar Ariana Grande, Zack, Donny, and Caleb. This instantly excited fans as they got to see some of their favorites return to the game. Watching fan-favorite and iconic BB player Rachel Reilly win the game cemented this season as a favorite for many.
Many consider Big Brother 20 one of the best seasons in recent years. Tyler built a strong dominant alliance called Level 6. Under his leadership, the alliance successfully played a hand in every eviction throughout the summer.
Even when the alliance wasn't in power, they found a way to confuse and manipulate the other side of the house. The underdog alliance FOUTTE was filled with quirky and entertaining personalities who fans enjoyed rooting for despite their poor gameplay. Season 5 is largely remembered for Project DNA. This twist had two parts to it. Firstly, there was a pair of identical twins switching in and out of the house every few days, playing as 1 person.
After successfully making it to week 5, these 2 were able to enter the house as individual players. The second part of the twist allowed 2 half-siblings to play the game together, unbeknownst to them. This season also was the first season in which 6 houseguests played for the veto, allowing the creation of the backdoor , which was originally called the six finger plan.
With so many important stables of Big Brother developing during this season, its no wonder that this season is one of the best. As a result, 8 new houseguests entered the game only to be joined by 5 exes.
This, of course, led to some insane drama between houseguests, including the expulsion of one. As this was an early season, it also impacted the way the game moved forward with the Golden Power of Veto, introduced to allow contestants to take themselves off of the block.
Additionally, this was the first season that featured a 7 person sequestered jury, forcing the houseguests to remain cut off from the world even after their eviction. One of the reasons this season is so memorable is because the final two were both women. This season contained the rivals twist. These 3 players had tense connections with 3 of the other houseguests - most notable being Danielle and her estranged father Dick. Much of the reason this season is remembered is due to the enjoyment fans had watching these two players reconnect.
They went from not speaking to working as allies and sitting in the final two chairs together despite being regularly targeted by the house. Fans enjoyed watching Eric as America's player and laughing at Jen for her narcissistic behavior. This season deserves more credit than it gets. Fans were excited to see some beloved veterans returning to the game - Da'Vonne, Nicole, Frank, and James. The cast also contained two siblings of former houseguests, Tiffany and Paulie.
While fans would have loved to see Da'Vonne last longer, the hilarious moments in the house and diary room sessions from her time in the house can't be forgotten. Then there is Victor, a newbie who managed to battle his way back into the house twice! Although James didn't make as many moves as he did in season 17, many fans still enjoyed watching his relationship with fellow houseguest Natalie bloom - even if it didn't work out in the end.
And Paul secured his title as one of the best Big Brother players in recent seasons. Then there is the best jury segment we've ever seen, the fight between Paulie and Da'Vonne. The final vote had fans at the edge of their seats with Paul- a deserving newbie, facing Nicole - the only vet to ever win the game. This season contained one of the best twists ever. In this individual game, each houseguest secretly entered as a pair. Each houseguest believed that they were the only secret pair in the game.
These seasons taught us what it truly means to play the game and solidified our Big Brother addiction. The fifth season brought us twists galore thanks to Project DNA a. Project Do Not Assume.
