He is the brother of Bottles and takes over Bottles's role from the first game. Mumbo Jumbo also returns as a playable character that can venture out into each world and use specific magic spells to help Banjo and Kazooie proceed. Replacing Mumbo's previous role of transforming the duo into different forms is Humba Wumba , a medicine woman and Mumbo's rival. Another feature introduced in Banjo-Tooie is the interconnectedness of its worlds.
In Banjo-Kazooie the titular duo would be magically transported to each level via special doors in Gruntilda's lair. In Banjo-Tooie the levels are physically connected at multiple points and are effectively extensions of the Isle o' Hags hub world. In addition, the train Chuffy can be used to migrate minor characters between some worlds that contain stations. Rare left a fully functional, though inaccessible, mode in the game where player two can play as an undead version of Bottles the mole and can take control of enemy characters to hinder Banjo in his quest.
The player cannot take control of bosses, however, due to Bottles leaving when entering a room to fight a boss, stating, "I'm not needed here. The face of "Devil Bottles" appears with one of the questions in the Tower of Tragedy. In , Rare said that the reason Bottles' Revenge was scrapped was because they ran out of time to debug it, although, "It did work rather well.
Using an emulator , Bottles' Revenge can be activated using the cheat menu. If activated, a cutscene will play upon entering Spiral Mountain for the first time, and player two can control Devil Bottles. If a mini-game or boss is selected from the replay menu while Bottles' Revenge is activated, instead of simply replaying that part of the game, the player is placed at that point in the game and can continue to play normally, facilitating easy replaying of entire levels.
Bottles' Revenge remains inaccessible in the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game. The events in that game follow those of Banjo-Kazooie , and lead up to Banjo-Tooie. Bad Qualities The Nintendo 64 version suffers frame rate drops, often when entering a new room, and some levels have a very low frame rate making it feel very choppy and slow.
The original version of the Xbox Live version also had some frame rate issues which were fixed in updates. Due to hardware limitations on the Nintendo 64, the Stop 'n' Swop feature can't be used in the original version of the game The Items are still Obtainable in this version though via N64 Pak Enemies. The port for Xbox Live solves this though and adds extra things to unlock by Stop 'n' Swop that wasn't in the original game.
The worlds can be too big even with Warp pads, which can sometimes make it frustrating to figure out what to do or where to go. This isn't helped by the fact that the worlds still have the same amount of objectives and less collectibles than the first game, resulting in them having large amounts of empty space. Gruntilda's obnoxious in a good way rhymes are gone. The infamous Canary Mary race on the final world.
Canary Mary's AI rubberbands so much that it feels like it's cheating to make her win. To win that race, you have to move slowly and always stay just behind Canary Mary which will cause the rubberbanding AI to maker her go slowly as well, then right before the finish line zoom right past her.
And even with this method, Canary is still likely to win as the moment in which you need to speed up is very specific. Some of the soundtracks do not sound like that they are supposed to in the Xbox Live Arcade port; several notes mostly the strings are on a lower octane than they are supposed to, and all of the vibrato effects are lacking in some of the instruments, notably the Theremin because it sounds flat rather than wobbly.
Kazooie can be unlikeable In the "Bottles's death" Scene. Suddenly, Spiral Mountain experiences tremors like that of an earthquake, which disrupts Banjo and friends' game. The tremors were caused by a massive digging machine called the Hag 1 , piloted by Grunty's sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda , who have come to rescue their sister. After the quake, Banjo says someone should go investigate. Kazooie claims to be too scared, so Mumbo bravely decides to go.
Kazooie then reveals she was faking so she can steal some of his chips. When the witches arrive, Klungo expresses his grief of failing to save his mistress, but her sisters assure they got it covered.
They use a spell to destroy the boulder trapping Grunty and reviving her from the dead, but as she climbs out, they realize she has withered away to nothing but an animate skeleton with robes.
Grunty is not pleased about being a walking corpse, but Mingella and Blobbelda reassures their sister that they have a plan to restore her body, and she must come with them back to their castle. Having witnessed Grunty's escape from the boulder, Mumbo bolts back to the house, but is seen by the witches.
The skeletal Grunty runs after him, firing spells rapidly. Upon reaching the house, Mumbo rushes inside to warn Banjo, Kazooie and Bottles. Grunty then starts charging a powerful spell to destroy them all. The witch sisters then leave Spiral Mountain in the Hag 1, heading for their castle, leaving behind some minions to destroy the area as well as Klungo. The next morning, Banjo, Kazooie and Mumbo observe the damaged state of Spiral Mountain and their house.
They witness Bottles crawling out of the ruins, dying and becoming a ghost. Mumbo is outraged by this turn of events and swears revenge. He tells Banjo and Kazooie to go after the witch before leaving behind the duo. Kazooie is excited to have another chance to beat Grunty again, but Banjo worries that this new adventure will not be as easy as the last one.
The duo follow the Hag 1's tracks into a cave, encountering Klungo, who attempts to impede them. They arrive in Jinjo Village, where the Hag 1 has also caused trouble, flattening the house of the grey Jinjo family one of the ten families residing in the village , and killing them. The ravaging of Hag 1 scared the jinjos off, and King Jingaling requests the duo's help in gathering them back in the village.
He informs them of Master Jiggywiggy and the ancient order of the Crystal Jiggy, which is crucial to their quest.
